GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

      Georgia High School Graduation Requirements

            For Students Entering High School

English

4 Credits

 

  • 1 Credit - 9th-grade Literature and Composition 
  • 1 Credit - World Literature/Composition 
  • 1 Credit - American Literature/Composition (Require EOC)
  • 1 Credit - British Literature/Composition

Math

4 Credits

  • 1 Credit - Algebra I (Require EOC)
  • 1 Credit - Geometry
  • 1 Credit - Algebra II
  • 1 Credit - Pre-calculus
  • 1 Credit - Other 4th Math (Advanced Math Decision Making)

Science

4 Credits

  • 1 Credit - Biology (Require EOC)
  • 1 Credit - Physical Science or Physics
  • Two Additional Science Courses of Choice: Chemistry, Earth Systems, Environmental Science, or an AP/IB Course (1 Credit Each)

Social Studies

3 Credits

  • 1 Credit - World History
  • 1 Credit - United States History (Require EOC)
  • ½ Credit - American Government
  • ½ Credit - Economics

CTAE

 

3 Credits

 

Students Must Earn 3 Credits, in Any Combination, from These Three Curriculum Areas.

Students Planning to Attend a 4-Year College or University Immediately After High School Must Earn a Minimum of 2 Credits in a Modern Language.

 

Students Who Plan to Continue a Technical Program of Study at a Technical College After High School Are Encouraged to Take at Least 3 Credits in a Single CTAE Career Pathway. (See the Advisement Guide for CTAE Programs Available at Each High School.)

1 Credit

½ Credit per Course. Each Course Is One Semester in Length. Typically taken in the 9th Grade.
A Student Taking 3 Credits of JRROTC Will Satisfy This Requirement.

Electives

4 Credits

Electives Can Be Taken in Any Curriculum Area.
Students Planning to Attend a 4-Year College or University Are Encouraged to Take at Least 2 Electives from Academic Curriculum Areas.

Promotion to the Next Grade Is Based upon Credits Earned.

10th =   5 Credits

11th = 11 Credits

12th = 17 Credits

 

Georgia Milestones

 

Some Courses Require Students to Take the Georgia Milestones to Earn Credit for the Course. The Following Courses Require Students to Take the Georgia Milestones:

  • American Lit/Comp
  • Algebra I
  • Biology
  • U.S. History

 

The Georgia Milestones Count 20% of the Student's Final Grade.

 

1 Credit Consists of One Semester. Impact Academy is on a 4x4 Block Schedule.  Students Can Earn Four Credits/Semester and Eight Credits/School Year.  Credit Is Earned When a Minimum Passing Grade of 70 Is Achieved. A Semester Lasts 18 Weeks.

23 Credits Must Be Earned to Earn a High School Diploma.
