This is an in-person club only. There are no virtual options for participation in this club at this time. Meetings take place each Tuesday and Friday afternoon from 3 - 4:30pm starting Tuesday, August 20 and running through the end of January 2025.

The 2024-25 Impact Academy Robotics Club is currently full and is not accepting any more applications at this time.

About

The Impact Academy Middle School Robotics Club is a competitive robotics program made up of 7th and 8th grade students who want to dive deeper into the world of robotics. Using VEX IQ robotic equipment, students will work as a team made up of 3-4 students to design, build, and program a robot that will be able to meet specific requirements for competition. Students will then take their robot to VEX IQ competitions with the chance to compete at local, state, and world events.

Students who participate in our robotics club gain valuable skills!

  • Teamwork

  • Critical Thinking

  • Design Engineering

  • Robotics Building

  • Computer Programming

  • Problem Solving

  • Responsibility

  • Organization

Participation

Due to limited space and robotics equipment, we are only able to accept approximately 20 students for participation in our robotics club. If there are more students interested in joining this club than we can accept, participation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to prior participation, teacher recommendation, behavior, and/or academic performance.

  • Meetings will be held after school on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the competition season.

  • Students accepted into the robotics club are expected to attend every robotics meeting each week and to participate in both competitions.

Competitions

There will be 2 local level competitions in which we will participate. Each team is required to participate in both competitions. There may be opportunities for additional competitions as time and money allows. The more competitions a team competes in, the more chances there are for advancement to future competitions.

Local competitions:

  • Usually begin in the fall and run through late winter

  • Are a prerequisite for advancement to state and/or world competitions

  • Usually require a full day Saturday commitment (Occasionally we are able to find a competition on a Friday evening that would require a full afternoon/evening commitment.)

  • Require parent transportation. We do not provide transportation as a club and each student/parent is responsible for arriving on time for competition and staying until the competition is over or until the sponsor has dismissed your team.

State and/or World Competitions

If a team advances to state and/or world events, participation in those competitions will be the responsibility of each student/parent with the collaboration of Mrs. Garrison. Our robotics club will help to cover some costs if there are funds available.

Cost

$60 per student (mandatory)

This cost covers registration fees, local competition fees, equipment fees, as well as an Impact Academy Robotics Tshirt.

*If a team advances to state and/or world competitions, additional fees will be associated with participation in these additional competitions.
